General information
The SSI conferences, held every two years under the auspices of the International Society for Solid State Ionics, promote international collaboration and cooperation and provide a forum for scientists and engineers to discuss fundamentals, innovations and applications in the field of ion transport in solids. The SSI conferences also create an opportunity to exchange new ideas and latest research results. The SSI-18 conference will include plenary lectures and invited talks as well as contributed oral and poster presentations. Companies active in all areas of solid state ionics will be invited to display their equipment, instrumentation, products, software, publications and services to the research and development community.
Venue and accommodation
SSI-18 will be held in the conference rooms of the Warsaw Marriott Hotel (address: Al. Jerozolimskie 65/79). The hotel is conveniently located in the city centre. The accommodation, with the special offer for the large number of the conference participants has been also arranged in the very same hotel, to guarantee the maximum comfort during your stay in Warsaw. Downtown of Warsaw offers many hotels of various standards within walking distance from the conference venue. A limited number of rooms can be provided for students at the university campus.

Climate
In July the weather in Warsaw is generally warm and sunny, although thunderstorms may occur. Temperature during the day can range from 18° to 30 ° C.
Currency
All official conference prices are indicated in EURO, however the official currency in Poland is the Polish Zloty (PLN). One zloty equals 100 groszy. Banknotes come in denominations of 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 zloty and there are 1, 2 and 5 zloty, and 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 groszy coins in circulation. Foreign currency can be exchanged at the airport, hotels, banks and exchange offices (“kantor”). You will get a better deal by using a kantor that displays its exchange rate in the window.
Most hotels, restaurants, travel agencies, petrol stations and larger shops accept American Express, MasterCard and Visa cards. ATMs are widespread.
Electricity.
The electric current is 230 Volts AC, 50 Hertz. European two-pin plugs are required or bring plug converters from home.
Public transportation
The urban transportation system in Warsaw is well organized and quite efficient. The main means of transportation are underground (subway), bus, tramway and taxi. Price of one ticket for any of the means is 2,80 PLN. Taxis are available all day long. They charge lower fares between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. and higher fares between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. Price of one-way taxi from the Warsaw International Airport Okęcie to any of the hotels booked for SSI-18 Conference should not exceed 10-12 EUR (during the day).
